Joining the Ecovillage
Becoming a Resident Member of La Cité Écologique
We are open to welcoming new residents through a structured integration process. However, we do not actively recruit; we only invite individuals with whom we feel a genuine synergy. Joining an ecovillage is more a matter of the heart than of reason.
Typically, our integration program spans about three years, allowing both sides to get to know each other deeply.
Note : Before considering the possibility of joining our ecovillage, we strongly encourage you to attend a guided visit.
Our program in brief :
After your initial visit, we invite you to participate in a one-month internship to better understand how our community functions.
If you still feel called to continue, you may submit a request for temporary residency. This request will be presented at a regular assembly of permanent residents. Additional internship periods are often requested. Approval requires a 90% majority vote from those presents.
Once accepted, a one-year trial period begins, with an annual review of your status. Paid work on-site may be available, but it is not guaranteed. The same applies to housing. We recommend planning for a transition period during which you may need to work or live outside the ecovillage.
Additional information :
We ask for a certain number of volunteer hours on weekends to help with outdoor maintenance, agriculture, and cleaning of community buildings. This participation reflects your commitment to the ecovillage.
For reasons of safety, efficiency, education, and cohesion, we have adopted certain community guidelines regarding behavior, hygiene, handwashing, clothing, use of specialized equipment, and other aspects of communal life. We expect new members to respect these rules for a significant period before questioning them.
During shared meals, it may not be possible to accommodate all specific dietary needs.
New members are not automatically admitted to meetings of permanent residents. In some cases, they may attend without voting rights. Certain educational meetings are reserved for parents of children enrolled in the school.
Pets are not permitted during visits, internships, or the active membership phase.
Finally, please note that we are a completely smoke-free site. We do not tolerate violent behavior, clothing with violent or inappropriate messages, weapons, verbal abuse, or drug use.
